North Myrtle Beach, SC—A plane crashed into a North Myrtle Beach recreational vehicle park Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, resulting in two deaths. The double-fatality aviation accident happened just after 1 p.m. in the Briarcliffe RV Resort, which is located in the flight line for Grand Strand Airport, according to information provided by TheState.com.

Reports indicated an unspecified aircraft crashed in the north end of the Briarcliffe RV Resort, located on North Kings Highway near U.S. 17.

Joyce Bertschy, who works at the RV park, said she was in the resort’s office building with approximately eight other employees when “we heard it come in and then we heard the explosion.”

Bertschy noted that there were “quite a few people” in the area where the plane went down.

While Horry County Coroner Robert Edge was unable to confirm whether those fatally injured in the North Myrtle Beach plane crash were in the aircraft or on the ground at the time, he confirmed that at least two people died in the wreck.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct a full investigation in the deadly South Carolina plane crash.
